Western Belize Hotels

Eco . . . Eco . . . Eco . . . that truly is the Cayo District and the home of adventure!  With almost a million acres of protected land, it is an eco-tourists and nature lovers heaven, with many nature reserves and national parks in the hills of this region. Accommodations are varied, and include anything from small luxury resorts to local bed and breakfasts.  The people here are friendly, service oriented and entrenched in the tourism industry.  The Cayo District encompasses the capital of Belmopan, and the the lively towns of Santa Elena & San Ignacio separated by the one lane Hawksworth Bridge. Vacation here for 2 days or 7 days and you still won’t see it all!  There is such a wide range of adventures to choose from!  Canoe or kayak the rivers; hike or mountain bike the trails or hills; climb a Maya ruin; or zip through the trees.

For the adventurous, a vacation in this area is not complete without a trip to one of the caves . . . the underground!  Whether you choose Che Chem Ha, Actun Tunichil Mucnal (ATM), Caves Branch or Barton Creek, they are sure to excite, are all different, and with different adventure levels.  This underworld or ‘Xibalba’ is where you may see with pottery, human remains and skulls.  Or stay above ground and visit one of the fascinating Maya sites . . . Xunantunich, Cahal Pech, El Pilar, or Caracol.  They too, are all different.  A popular favorite area is the Mountain Pine Ridge with the Thousand Foot Waterfalls, Rio Frio Caves & Rio On Swimming Pools!  And we can’t forget the inland Blue Hole or St. Herman’s Cave.  Come let your adventure begin . . .
